Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from patients considering care at The Keiser Clinic.

Getting Started

Is the consultation call really free?
Yes. The initial 15-minute call is completely free with no obligation. You'll speak directly with one of our physicians — not a salesperson or scheduler. We use this call to understand your situation and determine if our approach is likely to help.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. You can book directly without a referral. However, we will request your relevant medical records so we can review what testing has already been done and avoid duplicating work unnecessarily.
How do I know if you can help me?
That's exactly what the consultation call is for. We'll ask about your symptoms, what you've tried, and what hasn't worked. Based on that conversation, we'll tell you honestly whether your pattern matches what we treat. If we don't think we can help, we'll say so.
What conditions do you treat?
We specialize in complex neurological conditions including POTS and dysautonomia, post-concussion syndrome, vestibular disorders (dizziness, vertigo, balance problems), chronic migraines, movement disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions. Our approach is particularly effective for cases that haven't responded to standard treatment.

Insurance & Cost

Do you accept insurance?
We are out of network for most insurance plans. This is intentional — we've chosen this model because we don't want your care limited by what insurance allows. Insurance typically pays for 15-minute visits and standard tests. Finding your mechanism requires more time and specialized equipment. We'd rather do the testing that actually finds answers.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Our services are eligible for HSA and FSA funds. Many patients use these accounts to cover their care.
Do you provide superbills for reimbursement?
Yes. We provide detailed superbills that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan — we recommend checking with your insurance about your out-of-network benefits before your visit.
How much does treatment cost?
Cost depends on what testing you need and what treatment is recommended based on your findings. We discuss investment on the consultation call once we understand your situation. We're transparent about costs — if budget is a concern, we'll address it directly.

Travel & Logistics

I don't live in Michigan. Can you help me remotely?
The initial evaluation requires in-person testing. Transcranial Doppler, VNG, oculomotor assessment, and other diagnostic tests can't be done remotely. Some follow-up care can be conducted via telehealth, but we need to see you in person first to accurately diagnose your condition.
How long will I need to be in Michigan?
Initial evaluation typically takes 1-2 days. If you proceed with treatment, the duration depends on your specific needs — some patients benefit from intensive programs lasting 1-2 weeks, while others do better with less intensive, periodic visits. We'll discuss what makes sense for your situation.
Do you help with travel arrangements?
Our patient care coordinator can help you plan logistics. We work with patients from across the country and internationally — we're experienced in making the process as smooth as possible. We can recommend nearby accommodations and help coordinate your visit schedule.
Where exactly are you located?
We're located in Chelsea, Michigan — about 15 miles west of Ann Arbor and approximately 60 miles from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). The area has several hotel options for out-of-town patients.

Treatment & Results

What if you can't help me?
We'll tell you. We have no interest in taking patients we can't help. If our approach isn't right for your situation, we'll explain why and suggest alternatives if we can. We'd rather be honest upfront than waste your time and money.
How long until I see results?
It depends on your condition and how long you've been symptomatic. Some patients notice improvement within days of starting treatment. Others require weeks or months of consistent work. During your report of findings, we'll give you realistic expectations based on your specific situation.
I've already seen POTS specialists. Why would this be different?
Most POTS treatment focuses on the same lever: blood volume and vascular tone. If that's not your mechanism, those treatments won't resolve the problem. We test for mechanisms that standard POTS workups don't assess — neurovascular function, neurological processing, vestibular contributions, and structural factors.
Will I need to stop my current medications?
Not necessarily. We'll review your current medications and discuss whether any adjustments might be helpful. We never recommend stopping medications without coordination with your prescribing physician. Our goal is to address the underlying mechanism so you may eventually need less medication — but that's a decision made carefully over time.
Do you guarantee results?
No ethical medical provider can guarantee results. What we can guarantee is that we'll conduct a thorough evaluation, give you an honest assessment, and only recommend treatment if we genuinely believe it will help. We track outcomes and can share realistic expectations based on patients with similar presentations.
